About us

The Kelhar family cuts down 17 mighty oaks that were growing on their estate. A few years later, from these oaks a wine cellar is built which is the hallmark of the farm, today one of the biggest in Lower Styria.

Wine cellar

A wine cellar is built which is today part of the family house.

Grape phylloxera

Just like in the greater part of Europe, the Bizeljsko area also suffers huge damage to vineyards due to infestation with grape phylloxera. They plant vines grafted onto the substrate which increases their resistance.

Marijan Kelhar bottles sauvignon and starts attending wine fairs.

Construction of a new wine cellar

First steps are made towards ecological production and the construction of a new wine cellar.

Organic production

The beginning of ecological production and restructuring of vineyards into organic production. The first wine made with the method of prolonged maceration is Cuvée Extrême 2009.

At the end of the 1980s, Ivan and Elizabeta Kelhar left the farm and vineyards to the care of their son Marijan and his wife Ana. Marijan decided to focus on winemaking and thus created the Keltis brand, under which in 1989 he bottled the first wines and entered the market as a boutique winemaker. In the 1990s, their sons Luka and Miha were born, the latter of whom eventually took over the leading role in the wine cellar. His first very own wine was Cuvée Extrême 2009, which took the excellent 2nd place at the festival of orange wines in Vienna.
